Family court support.

The place to go for advice for families dealing with social services, CAFCASS and the family courts.

We are a group of parents who have been through the experience of the family courts. some of us have changed things around to get our children home. We are not affiliated with social services or CAFCASS. You can trust us to help you navigate the system.

Parents find themselves having to use the system to fight the system.

Many children remain in the care system even where a child is pleading to go home. Services can and often do speak on behalf of the child and ignore the children’s wishes on the basis they believe the child is settled and they believe they as professionals know what is best for the child more than the child does themselves or even their parents.

Parents find that Solicitors are unable to help parents as the criteria for legal aid are so strict.

To get legal aid funding you must be on the correct means-tested benefits and be able to show that you have at least a 50% chance of winning your case.

in rare cases, solicitors may take cases on a pro-bono basis.

Go to the site index and find the page for legal aid. There are links there to help you to find out if you are entitled to legal aid. and links to the bar pro Bono.

Many parents find themselves having to self-represent due to a lack of government funding for legal aid.

This happens in most cases. Many parents are being turned away by solicitors as it is the case that parents must prove they can win their case before the case has even been brought before the judge.

We have been successful in helping many parents get their children home.

We have a vast experience in various aspects oF what can happen in the family court including an expert on SGO. discharging care orders and forced adoption.

We have experienced all of this ourselves and so know the process and how services, professionals and the court system works.

You will not get this information elsewhere, especially not from social services, CAFCASS or any other professionals dealing with children and the family court.

We find that the biggest difficulty is getting parents to trust that we know what we are doing and advise them in a way that can bring a positive outcome for the children who in so many cases do not need to be in the care system.

Hundreds of parents have regained control of their lives and got their children home where they should be. It is possible.

We have found that where parents cannot put their trust in our advice and who just want to fight us cannot show change and so their cases end in a negative outcome.

Our advisors agree that had we had someone who could spell out the process of how the family courts worked our cases wouldn't have taken as long as they did to get their children back in their care.

Social services do not give you the heads up that they ensnare parents even using grandparents, isolating them from the parent’s families as the family becomes so embarrassed that their child has this involvement. and as a natural reaction, they naturally deny what services think and try to prove them wrong. The result of this is that services write reports stating the parents won’t work with them which then leads to recommendations of removal from their care. Accepting what services believe is key to making changes

Winning your case comes down to knowing how the system works and working with and around it.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory training.

This training is made possible by the amazing work and example of a parent Paula McGowan and her husband who found themselves in a terrible position where their voices on behalf of their son and the voice of their son Oliver went unheard during his medical treatment and where medication which might otherwise work for some, and where Oliver was not psychotic or mentally ill so did not require these medications, ended up having a tragic effect on this happy bright young man’s life.

Oliver had a brilliant future ahead of him which was cut short by these events that are now highlighted due to the passion of Oliver’s Mother Paula who chose passion over resentment as she took it upon herself to make sure that what happened to Oliver should never happen to other parents and special needs children again. Paula McGowan has fought tirelessly to make this happen. The training has been made mandatory after it was given Royal ascent by the queen not long before her passing. Paula was also awarded a well-deserved OBE for her work. Now all professionals who work with special needs children and their parents must by law do this training.

The court of appeal where many parents are being forced to have to go to in order to appeal cases. There is little or no legal support for parents who cannot afford to do this, and many go to this court unequip and unrepresented to attempt to put right injustices that affect their lives and that of their children.

Going to court .

The family court where Hearings are held behind closed doors, safely protected from public scrutiny and the kind of transparency almost every other facet of our justice system is subject to.

Every year the family court makes unfair life-changing decisions for families and children.

family courts are systemically failing victims and children and causing them harm. Yet shockingly, some senior judges appear satisfied that the modern approach to domestic abuse is well understood by the vast majority of judges and magistrates. It is not. We need an urgent course correction. Judicial and professional training is critical to ensuring that abuse dynamics are properly identified and understood in these complex cases. It’s why the Lords recently voted to include an amendment I helped to draft for the domestic abuse bill calling for regular, mandatory training for family judges.

It is a relief to see the president of the family court Lord justice McFarlane taking these issues seriously and attempting to make the necessary changes to address domestic violence within the family court. He has finally recognised that family courts must look at whether there is a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour within the parents’ relationship.

As academic Evan Stark says, coercive control is like being taken hostage and trapped in a world of fear. While coercive control has been a criminal offence since 2015, the family court is still lagging behind.

It comes as a shock to many to learn that often Forced adoption orders are made against the parents wishes usually for the smallest issues such as the parents cannot get along.

Appeals at the family court are rarely successful but with a wealth of knowledge in case law and law, it is possible.
